Home Cookin’ program with new changes

March 18th, 2015

[From Miriam Biber]

Every year, the Alumni Relations Office hosts Home Cookin’, a potluck for the senior class with  food made by the faculty, staff, and alumni. This year we are doing things a bit differently and need your help to make it happen. Along with your offerings of delicious food, we are asking you to share the recipe for the dish you will bring to Home Cookin’ to compile a cookbook for the Class of 2015. We would love for the whole senior class to come away from this event and this semester with something tangible to remember their favorite community members, as well as provide another tool to make their shift into the post-grad world a bit easier. There are absolutely no requirements for what you can make and what recipes to submit for Home Cookin’, as long as it is something you love. Family recipes, easy weeknight side dishes, and nostalgic treats are all welcome.

We have made the recipe submission process very easy in hopes to encourage your participation in what is sure to be the best Home Cookin’ yet. To submit a recipe, to go and fill out the recipe form. You can also email Julia Breskin ’14 directly with an existing PDF of a recipe at Then, all you have to do is come to the Alumni House on April 13th at 5:30pm with your dish and an empty belly. Let us know if you have any questions.

Mellon Grant for Hege Library and the Arts and Humanities

October 3rd, 2014

Suzanne Bartels announced at the October 1 faculty meeting that we had received a grant from the Andrew Mellon Foundation to support the library. The Mellon Foundation is a respected and prestigious philanthropic organization that supports the liberal arts in higher education. We were invited to apply in April and submitted our application in July.

The funded program, called Digital Directions for the Arts and Humanities, will support new initiatives in the library for teaching, research, and pedagogical innovation in the arts and humanities. The grant, which is for a total of $100,000, includes significant funding for faculty development and projects.

Suzanne provided the following documents to share. The budget and a detailed narrative are presented in the second document.

This is a significant award, a great opportunity, and the result of hard work by our librarians, Michelle Cole, and many others on campus.  Please join me in expressing our gratitude for their efforts.
