I made this comment on the Guilford Edge site, but also wanted to throw it into the moon room universe:
After this week’s forum, I am excited about the possibilities a new schedule would offer. I really appreciated what some said about thinking about our classes in new ways and avoiding getting stuck in the “but this is the way I’ve always done it” cycle.
That being said, I think the proposed schedule is stuck in an old paradigm about community and academic life needing to take place from 8-5. If the majority of our students are currently taking evening classes and many of us are teaching evening classes, why not make a shift to a 10am-7pm schedule? With perhaps a few later night blocks or early morning blocks if necessary. -Eva Lawrence, Psychology
